Nephrologist/Renal Physician
Dr Tim Pianta is a Nephrologist (also called Renal Physician or ‘kidney doctor’). He consults across the spectrum of kidney health and disease including hypertension, the early management and follow up of acute kidney injury, glomerular and tubulointerstitial disease, chronic kidney disease and its complications, and the management of kidney replacement therapies.
Tim completed his medical degree at University of Melbourne with Honours. He was later awarded his FRACP in 2011 after training across several tertiary services in Victoria and New South Wales. He subsequently completed a PhD examining Acute Kidney Injury and Kidney Transplantation at University of NSW and continues research examining acute kidney disease and its ongoing management, as well as the implications of kidney disease on diagnostic tests and patient outcomes.
Tim is a Staff Specialist at Northern Hospital and holds a salaried academic appointment in Medical Education at University of Melbourne where he teaches and examines medical students and supervises postgraduate research students. He is a regular clinical examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He attends several multidisciplinary meetings to improve outcomes for patients and their families.
