Vikram is a qualified vascular and endovascular surgeon offering comprehensive management of the full spectrum of vascular conditions. A native of Toowoomba in regional Queensland, he completed his medical degree through the University of Queensland. During his formative years he was awarded a Junior Doctor Research Fellowship through the Queensland Government. His work with the Queensland Research Centre for Peripheral Vascular Disease led to the award of an MPhil research degree through the University of Queensland in 2018. He was also awarded the inaugural Professor Philip Walker Vascular Surgery Research Scholarship through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for his research on biomarkers in abdominal aortic aneurysm. He gained experience managing all aspects of vascular surgical conditions while working in Brisbane, New Zealand, and Melbourne through his training, most notably including the emergency vascular surgical treatment of many victims of the tragic Christchurch mosque shootings in 2019.
Vikram is equally adept with traditional open surgery and minimally-invasive endovascular treatments, in addition to non-operative strategies to manage vascular disease. He has a special interest in medical and surgical management of aortic aneurysms and dissections, and has published extensively on this subject. He is also interested in limb salvage techniques for patients with chronic limb threatening ischaemia and advanced diabetic foot pathology. He has presented at local, national, and international conferences, and ensures that he remains abreast of new developments in the world of vascular surgery by continuing to participate in research, reading peer-reviewed journal articles and attending scientific meetings. He is passionate about teaching, and is the Supervisor of Vascular Training at The Northern Hospital. Additionally he was co-convenor of the annual vascular surgery trainee skills course in Melbourne in 2023 and a member of the organising committee of the ANZ Vascular Conference in 2024.
Vikram has public hospital appointments through the Alfred and Northern Hospitals. He lives locally with his wife and two children. In addition to English, he speaks fluent French, Hindi/Urdu, Marathi, and Tamil. Outside of work, you are most likely to bump into him at a local sporting or musical event (he attends the Boxing Day Test every year and is an avid heavy metal fan) or doing some DIY around the house or yard.
